We have an outdoor heater / lamp that recently starting burning up at
the fuse. The fuse did not blow and the lamp still works, but the
plastic cap began melting emitting a wisp of smoke and a hideous odor.
The lamp is out of warranty, but clearly this is a manufacturer defect
that poses a safety hazard. I emailed Blue Rhino a picture and they offered
me 50% reimbursement of the original retail price if I sign a waiver. I
have found other internet posts that other consumers have had similar
experiences. I believe the lamps should be recalled which would cost
them considerably more money than giving me 100% of the replacement cost
so I did not agree to their terms. The lamp is made by Endless Summer,
a subsidiary of Blue Rhino, model Northgate.
I am looking into finding an attorney that will pursue a class action lawsuit. Please contact me if you have had a similar experience. Blue Rhino all but admitted to me they were aware of the defect.
